3 Skills to Sell Easily

Samuel Chapman Product Coach

Hello! I'm Samuel Chapman.

I'm on a mission to show you that every product based business can flourish and grow, no matter the challenges. Regardless what you sell, or whether you have a physical or online location.

With the right knowledge, tools, and a bit of inspiration, you can achieve amazing results.

Liquid error: Nil location provided. Can't build URI.

If selling your products feels like a struggle — you're not alone.

You put in the effort, show up online or at your stall, but people walk away without buying. Sound familiar?

Well, in this blog, I’m going to show you three simple sales techniques that will help you sell more easily, connect with more customers, and feel more confident — even if you hate selling.

Whether you run an online shop, pop-up stand, market stall or bricks-and-mortar boutique, these techniques work across the board. And the third one? It’s the most overlooked strategy out there — but it’s also the one that could totally change how you do business.

Let’s dive in.

1. Build Trust First with the Relationship Sale

Let’s start with the foundation: trust.

People don’t just buy from businesses — they buy from people they feel a connection with. When a customer feels like you understand them, they're far more likely to buy.

Think about the last time you had a great conversation in a shop. Maybe the assistant asked how your day was going or why you were looking for something in particular. It made you feel seen, didn’t it? That’s the power of connection. And it’s what I call The Relationship Sale.

How to Build Connection in 3 Questions:

Next time you speak to a customer (in person, via DM, or email), use this simple 3-question formula:

  1. What brings you in today?

  2. Have you tried something like this before?

  3. What’s the most important thing you want from this product?

These open-ended questions make your customer feel heard and help you recommend exactly what they need — which makes the sale feel helpful, not pushy.

2. Show the Real Worth of Your Product with Value Stacking

One of the biggest mistakes small business owners make is focusing too much on price.

Yes, price matters. But value matters more.

Customers rarely buy based on price alone — they buy because they believe they’re getting something worth the investment.

What Is Value Stacking?

It’s about helping your customer see the true worth of what they’re getting. You’re not just selling a product — you’re selling what it does for them.

Example:
Instead of saying:
💬 “This handmade leather bag is £100.”

Say:
💬 “This is made with full-grain leather that gets better with age, lined with a custom interior to keep you organised, and it comes with a lifetime repair guarantee.”

Suddenly, that £100 feels like a steal.

The more value you show, the easier it is to sell.

3. Use Real Scarcity and Urgency (But Always Be Honest)

Here’s something powerful: people hate missing out.

This is why flash sales and Black Friday offers are so effective. If your customer feels like they’ve got all the time in the world, they’ll often delay... and never return.

That’s why urgency is one of the most effective tools in your sales toolkit.

But there’s a catch — it must be genuine.

If you say “Only 10 left,” there better be only 10 left. If your offer ends at midnight, make sure it really does. Fake scarcity damages trust. Real urgency builds excitement and drives action.

Ways to Use Urgency Honestly:

  • Limited Editions: “Only available until the end of the month.”

  • Time-Sensitive Bonuses: “Order today and get a free gift.”

  • Exclusive Stock: “We only made 50 of these — once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Urgency helps stop overthinking and moves customers to take action now — not later.

Bonus Tip: Don’t Forget to Follow Up!

Here’s where most small business owners leave money on the table: they don’t follow up.

Not everyone buys the first time. In fact, most don’t! But that doesn’t mean they’re not interested — they might just need a reminder or a nudge.

Follow-Up Example Message:

“Hey [Name], just checking in — were you still thinking about the [product name]? Let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like me to reserve one before they sell out!”

This kind, low-pressure message keeps you in their mind and reminds them of your product — without sounding pushy.

Following up can double your conversions, and it’s one of the easiest, most underused tools out there.
